Governance

The day-today operations of the SDSU-FGC is currently managed by a part-time facilities manager (Dong He, Research Associate); Dong is part of a NSF project for the other portion of his contract.  The FGC director (Mike Hildreth) is responsible for supervising the research associate and for interpreting and implementing policies established by the FGC governing body.  The FGC director must be a member of the SDSU faculty and is chosen by the FGC advisory committee, but serves at the discretion of the Experiment Station Director.  The FGC governing body currently consists of one representative from the following departments:
A.  College of Ag & Biological Sciences
      1.   Department of Animal & Range Science
      2.   Department of Biology & Microbiology
      3.   Department of Dairy Science
      4.   Department of Horticulture, Forestry, Landscape, and Parks
      5.   Department of Plant Science
      6.   Department of Veterinary Science
B.  College of Art & Science
      1.   Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry
C.  College Of Family And Consumer Sciences
      1.   Department of Nutrition, Food Science & Hospitality
D.  College Of Pharmacy

 1)  choosing the director (every 2 years) and a search committee for the FGC manager (when needed)
 2)  approving the FGC user policies and pricing/budget each year
 3)  attending meetings as requested by the director
 4)  providing prioritized recommendations for the purchase of new equipment

Representatives to the advisory committee are selected each year (at the beginning of the fall semester) by the user members within each appropriate department.  They will serve a one year term that is renewable.
